Crissy Chats #6: 5 tips to keep up with a healthy lifestyle

Hello lovelies!

How many of you are pursuing a healthy lifestyle? And how many of you actually succeed on doing that? Seriously! Sometimes I find it very, very hard to keep up with my healthy lifestyle, specially now that I've started my second semester and my timetables are just a big mess.

I have uni normally from 8:00 to 14:00, sometimes I start later, sometimes I finish earlier, so that means I get home an hour later than I finish (perks of taking public transport... yikes). I find it very hard sometimes because when I want to go to the gym, I feel very lazy or tired so I end up napping because I need to rest and then I get lazy or busy with other stuff - so how am I going to keep up with my gym hours and my uni hours, social life AND homework!?

If you've got the same problem; I have some tips to share with you! Remember that by no means I'm an expert on this topic, I'm just sharing my personal tips and things that have worked for me so far.

1. Don't be so hard on yourself. Every body works differently! You don't have to go everyday! Studies say it's okay to go 3-4 days per week. Maybe even 5. Take days in between your workouts to rest your body. Exercise is good, but remember your body needs to rest.

2. Make your gym / fitness routine a part of your schedule. As hard as it may seem, there's time for an hour or hour and a half workout routine. If you have class in the afternoon, do your routines in the morning. If you have class in the morning, go in the afternoon! Mini tip: If you can't afford a gym membership or you don't want to exercise outside alone, download the app seven! It's great! It provides you 7 min workouts that can help you tone up a little!

3. Sleep 6-8 hours minimum. This may sound silly but it's a good way to feel healthy - plus you'll feel wonderful. The fact that beauty starts from within is true; it is proven that if you sleep between 6 and 8 hours, your body will thank you.

4. Drink water. Obvious, right? I'm not saying you musn't drink soda. Come on, everyone needs a sugar boost! But don't drink it everyday. I love Coke, I used to drink so much Coke, but now, if I drink one, it's Coke Zero and every now and then like special dinners or such. I'm drinking so much water now I feel very proud of myself hahaha!

5. Don't be restrictive with your foodMake small changes. Don't try to be so drastic because it's not going to work. If you want to start living a healthy lifestyle, you shouldn't go from black to white. For example: do you eat lots of sweets during your week? Try to eat less sweets!
You will read that clean eating is the best you can do aka not eating processed foods at all, just natural food. In my opinion, that can be quite restrictive and may make people develope binge eating disorders since you have to eat well 6 days and then you can eat everything you want for one day. My tip? Flexible dieting aka "If it fits your macros" - you don't have to necessarily count calories but macronutrients (proteins, carbohydrates...) to keep up with a healthy lifestyle. That means you can eat a slice of your favourite cake and still be a healthy mofo person!

Easy, right? These tips have worked for me so far and I hope you find them useful. Let me know if you're like that too or you'd share more tips!

  6. Great post. I like how you make a point to make small changes with diet rather than being very restrictive. I'm very health conscious but I will never give up my chocolate ;)

    1. Restrictions should be made if you really suffer from severe obesity but if you just wanna drop some pounds, I think that you should not stop eating things you like - just eat them in moderation!!

      Thanks for reading!! x
