Crissy Chats #12: INK

Aloha everyone!

Welcome to Crissy Chats number 12! This is my weekly post in which I talk about personal things or I post tags that are related to me so you guys can get to know me a bit better!

I wanted to talk about something quite personal but that I get asked a lot anyway. As you may or may not know, I have a tattoo on my right forearm in Greek. I want to talk about this and give you some INKspiration, because, why not? Tattoos are cool.

On January 9th, 2014, my 21st birthday, I finally got my first tattoo - but not the only one I plan to get. I believe tattoos must have a meaning or a story behind it, you must feel identified with it. I respect anyone who gets a random thing tattooed but it is definitely not my thing.

What does it mean? The word tattooed is this: οικογένεια and it means "family" in Greek. I don't have any kind of relation with Greece nor I have Greek family, I just love everything about the language and Greek mythology. Originally I wanted to add an owl to my tattoo but it ended up like this. And I love it.
My family is the most important thing I have in the world - my parents, my two brothers and my close friends are my family. Everyone has a bit of drama llama going on in their lives within a family and months prior to my tattoo, something big happened and it involved my family. Something that made me realise how proud I am to be who I am thanks to my parents and my brothers. Something that made me realise who is here and who isn't. That moved me even more to get it tattooed, write a long post on Facebook about it and get so many likes (85 to be exact) and comments from people who aren't worth of my time anymore because of what happened. Sad thing, they posted ironic stuff, turning their words on me... but little did they know I can be very sassy.
(It's so complicated to get a selfie with this tattoo, I swear) It looks weird because of the rotation of my arm!
Oh my! Did it hurt? I wouldn't say it hurt me, but it burnt. At first I felt as if a kitten was scratching my skin, however at some parts it did burn me. My best friend recorded a video in which you can see my face and I'm like "holy bananas!" But the closer you are to a bone, the more it will hurt.

But what will happen when you get a job!? (I get this asked a lot) I currently have a job and they haven't said a word. It can be easily covered with long sleeves and this is quite discreet as it's located inside my forearm and not outside.
My opinion on jobs that don't accept tattoos is the following: If you don't accept someone because they have a tattoo or several tattoos is the same thing as if you wouldn't accept someone who has a skin problem or scars. Those things can't be erased from your skin, and it doesn't mean you're a bad person, does it? If I apply for a job and they don't accept me because of my tattoo then DEFINITELY it's not my place to be.

Is it real?! Mmm, yes. (I've also been asked this question a lot for some reason!)

How did you choose the tattoo parlour/studio? Well, my best friend has plenty of tattoos and there is this tattoo parlour in the centre of the city that does great tattoos. The hygiene conditions are amazing. Everything is 100% correct - it even looks you're in a hospital instead of a tattoo parlour/studio. I really love it.

How much did it cost? It was a present, but I think it was 60€-80€. Tattoo prices depend on the location and how big it is!

What did your parents think? My mum wasn't happy at first even though she knew I was getting it done, but she took good care of it. My dad was quite ok with it, and they both love the meaning!

How did you take care of it? I had a cream that healed it. Tattoos are wounds as well, so you need to make sure it doesn't get infected. My tattoo parlour sold a cream that my brother had so I used that one and it healed perfectly.

Do you plan on getting more tattoos? YES! (Sorry mum) An anchor on my left ankle meaning "where I come from / where I stand" and a plane silhouette on my right ankle meaning "where I plan to go". Both tats will be a reminder of where I come from and what I want to achieve as in "whatever you do, whether I become successful or not, just remember where are your roots."

And that's it! If you have any more questions regarding tattoos, you can leave them down below! I hope you enjoyed this post!

Do you have any tattoos? Would you get one?

  1. What a lovely post Cristina! I like that your tattoos have meanings to you - I also think they should have meanings and not just be too random!
Also love the idea for the new tattoos as well - really great!
I'm planning on getting one, but I'm always to scared to make an appointment haha I'm also a bit worried that they could cause working troubles. so I'll just wait and see for now - until I can't stand waiting for it anymore haha

    1. You always say the nicest things, Ann! They can be random as well (for example, I want to get a Mandala tattooed on my back too!) but Mandalas symbolise different things and I'd do my best to create that Mandala myself and not get a random one :)

I was scared of getting a tattoo at first! Same thing when I got my nose piercing - which is now closed, unfortunately T_T - but this has to be a "okay, I will do it NOW". I didn't make any appointment, I just went there and asked if it was okay for me to do it now and they said yes!

Let me know if you ever get one! ^_^ xxx

    2. I try my best hehe :P
Love the mandala idea as well - especially that you're doing it yourself!

At the parlor I wanted to do it you have to have an appointment :/ I'm afraid that I'll just chicken out haha but I'll definitely let you know!

I might get another piercing though, because you can just take it out and that's it haha

  5. I don't have any tattoos and I would never get one. They are just not for me and I'm not a massive fan of them to be honest!

  6. I know how you feel about tattoos and being seen as "unprofessional." I always wanted a tattoo like yours or maybe something on my wrist. I personally love what you got; it looks really pretty.
