"IT" by Alexa Chung

 Hello sunshines!

(The following post may contain spoilers)

So I finally received this book that has been on plenty of bloggers and critics' mouth this past year. It is the very first book by Alexa Chung IT.

Let me tell you that it's a wonderful book - outside. I love the cloth cover, the name typography, her eye, everything. It's just very cute. I love the smell of it, too. (Some people sniff cocaine, I sniff books)

In all honesty, I've read more bad reviews than good reviews or reviews that only say things like "it's a good book to spend some time with" and I remember a review which said something along the lines of "it reads just like a blog."

There isn't any specific plot for this book, something that sort of confused me. There isn't ANY plot or summary on this book. They just say it's a book that will help you understand more Alexa's head and will help you and give you some insight on make up and fashion sort of thing.

It starts talking about how she first got into fashion through her love for horses. She talks about different style icons, from The Spice Girls to Brigitte Bardott and Lolita. She talks about her thoughts on fashion, dressing like boy and acting like a girl, and make up. It does read like a blog because it is easy to read - I read it in one afternoon - and it has plenty of nice quotes, nice thoughts and nice pictures.

Let me share with you one of my favourite quotes:
"I wish I'd been reassured that one day, yes, a boy would actually fancy me in spite and potentially, deliberately, FOR my zero boob/skinny legs combo." (p. 18)
I thought it was very interesting because I think there are plenty of girls that are into having that body and they do everything they can to do so while Alexa Chung seemed incredibly self-conscious about it when she was a teenager. It's a remarkable contrast, taking into account she's a model.

It has plenty of interesting thoughts and quotes and I'd copy them all but maybe I would spoil the best parts of the book. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the book and I don't think I wasted my money on it. I think it's a pretty book to look at and look for some inspiration or to get your mind away with when you just want to relax.
I like how natural she sounds when she talks about being a groupie because she has only dated leaders of music bands. It's cool that she talks about it, whether ironically or not.

She looks so good even in that card. How does she do that?

At some points I felt the book was slightly disorganised. I guess I'm used to chapters and following a specific line. But she just talks about things. You can see a line: Childhood > First idols > Girl power > Style Icons > Bits about modelling and fashion > Bits about make up > Random thoughts > Fashion. That's how I felt it's the book plus nice pictures and illustrations from Alexa. I don't think it's a bad thing, I guess she was trying to be creative - and she was - but it's the first book I read like this so it's quite shocking at time. However, I encourage creativity so I'm glad she was brave enough to break some rules.

Overall I think the book is nice to spend some time with if you feel like chilling one afternoon after work - like I did - or if you simply wanna know Alexa a bit more. I spent 16€ (I think it was 16,88 or something like that) including delivery from an Amazon shop (The Book Depository) so I think it's a great deal - especially after seeing the actual price in the cover 16GBP!

Have you read It by Alexa Chung?

    1. Thanks Joey!! I like the book, it's pretty to look at it, but it got big because Alexa wrote it. At least that's what I think! xxx

  2. I haven't read it yet but I'd really like to. The only thing putting me off is the price! £16 for such a small book that doesn't really have much substance just seems a bit excessive to me... I hate how these "coffee-table" style books are always so expensive. I really want the HONY one as well and it's £20 which is crazy! xx

    1. I think 20GBP for HONY is ok because it's quite big and well I'd pay those! But 16GB for Alexa's book is a bit too much :( x

  3. I have not read it! From the pictures and post, it seems very artsy and light. I might have to get it for traveling or something to keep me occupied.

    1. Yes it's good for travelling as in it distracts you and it's easy to read. Not travel friendly at all when it comes to weight though!!! x

  4. I got this for Christmas last year because my mother saw me look at it in a book store. It took me about 30 minutes to read and I had mixed feelings about it as well. I like the photos in it, etc, and it's pretty, but I definitely don't think it lives up to some of the hype. It's just kind of fun.

  10. I think it's a little unfair when people slag this off so much, she never claimed it was going to be War & Peace haha! Great review, I really want to get this for the pretty cover alone! x
