What goes around, comes around.

It's crazy how life is sometimes. This post is going to be sort of personal, based on a bad experience in a restaurant. Summing up, one of my closest friends has come back to Mallorca for a couple of weeks. She works in London so she came here to catch some sun and enjoy some holidays before going back to work...

We went to this Italian Restaurant by the Paseo Marítimo here in Palma, next to the harbour, called Il Napolitano. I've been there so many times that it's unbelievable how bad they treated my friend and me. We walked up and were checking the tables outside and inside and I told her "we can check inside, maybe it has AC and it's less warm than here" - the waiter decided to get in the conversation by saying "well, which kind of restaurant doesn't have AC inside?" You wouldn't imagine how many don't, but anyway.

We sat and they gave us the menu and we asked for drinks - two water bottles because we're trying to be healthy here. As soon as he brought us our water bottles, he left. My friend and me decided to wait in case he would come back to ask us for our food but instead he walked inside and started talking to a customer who was probably a friend of his.

Over thirty minutes - that's the time we waited for him to ask us what the bloody heck we wanted for dinner. He eventually came, of course, with his notepad and asking us what we wanted.

"The bill, please", we said after honestly considering leaving without even paying for our water bottles. Guess what he answered? "Haven't you girls had dinner?"

Excuse me?

"No, the bill, please. You've been talking to a friend for thirty minutes, now we want to leave." And we did. We left. But it didn't end here. We paid, of course, and left to the restaurant next door. Literally next door. In the pictures you're seeing, my friend is sitting on a booth and behind her is the restaurant.

The waiter from this other restaurant (Besso) was very kind to us. We explained him casually what happened after he asked us for drinks - "We don't want any drinks as we've just come back from the restaurant next to yours, drinking our water bottles, we'd just like to have our dinner for now."

He appeared with that first: two beers and small snacks. We looked at him, telling him it wasn't ours. This waiter sort of laughed it off and said "I must've been mistaken then, whatever, it's yours now. Enjoy girls."

Surprised by this, we accepted the beers (I usually don't drink beers like this unless I drink a Shandy, but boy did I like it!) and then he brought us a few mushrooms with grilled roquefort cheese, chicken wings with barbecue sauce and bravas - if you don't know, they're fried chips with different sauces, one of them is spicy (brava) and sometimes they give you alioli, which is what we got.

We were literally treated like important people. Not only this restaurant is amazing - I had already been there - and it looks quite fancy, but they were all so kind to us.

But did you think this ended here? He offered us to refill our drinks, which we kindly refused and eventually asked for our dessert. We weren't too sure, but decided to go for it. My friend and me thought about having an ice-cream because it was a very warm night, but he instead offered us their cakes and crepes. That's when I asked him for the prices of the crepes, because I didn't remember them. His answer? "Today it's free for you. What kind of crepe will you girls want?"

Ehhh excuse my face, it was warm and I was tired but look how healthy my hair looks!

And no, this didn't end here. He also eventually gave us a 10% off for our next time in the restaurant, which I hope is soon.

Maybe this all wasn't a big deal, but my father is a waiter and in my opinion he's the kindest waiter ever and he works hard for it. He has charisma, he makes customers feel comfortable and enjoy their meals - it's not like he's a robot, he honestly loves his job. Also, Virginia, my friend, is a waiter, and she works hard too so she felt pretty offended by that treat.

And that's it. Definitely, everything happens for a reason and what goes around, comes around. I hope you enjoyed this post - and foodporn pics!

Have you ever lived something like this?

(Apologies for the lack of comments from me on your blogs, these days have been hectic, farewell dinners, preparing everything and also studying for some retakes! I'm on my way to comment on your blogs now!) x

  1. awh the second waiter sounds so lovely! Good on you though for refusing to order anything else at the first restaurant, ive never had a waiter with the little manners that he had

    1. He was a very nice young man, he didn't even want to take our tips. Yes we were very angry and pissed and that waiter saw us in the other restaurant so... HA! Sucks for him!!

  2. I hate it when restaurants do that! When people just don't care even though you're paying! At least you got good service at the end! xx

    1. Ugh, it's so frustrating! I was so pissed but at least everything turned out just fine. KARMA! xx

  3. So many people in hospitality are just not made for their jobs it infuriates me!!!! Especially if you work in the industry yourself, it's just so frustrating to see people like that f*** waiter #1. Of course people think it's an easy job when you've got so many bellends working in customer service who don't give a fuck about what they're doing.
I'm glad your evening ended that lovely! Just proves that they are people who are made for customer service. x)) xx

  5. I love this! I hate bad service! It's so nice when people show you how it should be done.
    The food looks lovely too!

  6. I can't believe how unprofessional that first waiter was. You did right by leaving and going somewhere better.

  8. Sounds like your first experience was terrible, can't believe how rude they were! Glad your second restaurant find was better, if I was I would have given up at the first!! How lovely that he treated you two, there are some lovely people in this world! xxx

    1. We were hungry so we decided to switch to the restaurant next door as a revenge... and what a sweet revenge! Thank you Hannah! xxx

  9. Wow. Terrible! I'm sorry that happened. I've experienced the same thing one too many times and never had the courage to just leave & go next door. But, what a simple solution. You quickly turned a negative into a positive. :D

    1. Really?! We had to leave. I wish I had had the courage to actually ask for a paper to write a formal claiming letter to his boss but I'm sure they don't even have those kind of papers and that would have been even worse! But yes, we went next door! We felt powerful. Sometimes we need to know when to say "enough" xxx

  10. I know where I'm going when I'm back!! :) xx (PS what day do you leave for Sheffield?? I fly back on the 21st :) x
